Newport 10km

Newport 10km

I ran the inaugural 10km at Newport on April 29th. A full marathon was also organised for the same day.

Parking was good as I pre-booked and the park and ride was excellent. The Start line was at friars walk, which is newly built area and such a nice place with many shops within yards of the starting line. With a good coffee shop for my caffeine. It was an amazing event with approx 10,000 runners taking part in the days races.

The 10km was run on the flat, fast road. When we began,it was difficult to run as it was quite bunched with thousands of enthusiastic runners, but it soon opened up. We followed behind the marathon runners before looping around Spytty Park and the iconic Transporter Bridge towards the finish in the city centre in front of  huge support.

I had so happy to have taken part, it was fantastic event with a such a great atmosphere. Although I run hard, I did gain a personal best of 49 mins.

More inspiring was that my children ran the 1 mile family run and my 4 year old was brilliant, running it beside her big sister in approx 13 mins.

I will definately be completing in this hugely successful event next year.
