Llanelli Half Marathon 2018 – My Run

Llanelli Half Marathon 2018

The Llanelli half marathon was based at the parc y scarlets home of the Scarlets rugby team. The flat, fast course started from The stadium then through the breath-taking beautiful Millennium Coastal Path.

I set off early to ensure I arrived in good time. The traffic into the stadium was good and parking was no problem at all. The organisers  for the event arranged free massages, therefore I took the opportunity to undergo a well worth it massage. Afterwards I felt refreshed and ready to go.

This was my first attempt at the Llanelli half marathon and the weather was a little cold but great for running. There was hundreds of runners taking part and we started at 9am and began our run from the stadium to the main road which was a dip, turning right at the roundabout and then it was off road. The off road path was fantastic for me it was not hard nor was it slippery. Keeping good time and feeling good we run past the golf course and then along the coast which was stunning.

At the end of the coastal path we rejoined the main road for a little bit and on this road we was passing the front runners has they had already started the on return back. They looked really good and I cheered on as they past.

At the end of the road it was back to the coastal path, around metal sculpture. I was now returning back and passing other running ad all cheering each other on. Just past the sculpture was the water station.

At this point my legs began to hurt, but I kept up my pace. Back on the road was a slight climb up hill toward the coastal path and still many runners was passing down. It was magnificent seeing all the runners.

Running back along the coastal path I felt my calf tighten but with only a few kilometres left. I kept on and got back to the soft path. I was doing good time and increased my pace a little to ensure that I finished.

With approximately two km left I was on the road back, it was a dip and I found it extremely difficult with the pain in my calf and was so elated getting up the hill and seeing the crowds of supporters flocking around the stadium. On the final two-hundred meters towards the finish it was electric and I crossed the line knowing that I smashed my previous PB by over fifteen minutes. What an outstanding achievement.

The run was another amazing experience and the facilities and setting for the event was second to none and was very well organised with plenty of complementary drinking stations and gels. I will be taking on this event next year.  I’m now looking forward The Great Welsh Half Marathon!
